K-Movie: 'Cart (카트) has taken a spin...

The korean movie 'Cart' was released in cinemeas on 13th November...probably a day before I reached back to Melbourne. When I was in Seoul in the month of October, right in Myeongdong subway station, there were big promotional posters and ads on this movie. In fact this movie is based on a true story where in real life workers were laid off from E.Land Group and employees went on strike for a long period of time.

Veteran actress Yeom Jung Ah plays the role of a single mother, Sun Hee who has a high school son, Tae Young played by D.O (EXO member). Sun Hee is a contract worker for years in a large mart and has been given fake promises that she will be promoted to a full time worker. However her dreams were all dashed when all contract workers were laid off. Another temp worker Sun Rye played by Kim Young Ae was stunned to hear the bad news.

All workes were disappointed so they decided to go on strike while Sun Rye and worker Hye Mi decided to form their own union to fight for their own rights. Then comes the story of how these women survived to fight for their rights and defend for themselves when the upper management decided to take something behind their back.

This film is quite an interesting one and I am glad they picked the right women casts for the roles. Actress Moon Jeong Hee, Chun Won Hee, Kim Young Ae and Yeom Jung Ah were perfect for these characters. As for idol singer, D.O this might be his first ever major film apart from filming drama It's Okay to Love with Jo In Sung but he seems comfortable on the set. There is also actor Kim Kang Woo in this drama as one of the supermarket workers too.

This film has also made its way screening in Toronto International Film Festival, Busan International Film Festival and Hawaii International Film Festival 2014.
