The rising and flops of K-Pop Idols to Actors

Lately there have been a number of rising K-pop idols from their singing career to acting on dramas or movies. For some, they have made it to the top, some are improving and some are just still lacking in their acting abilities. Many PDs and scripwriters have casted new idols to play some roles but many were struggling to bring out the characters.

Idols that have done well/ improved :)

** Im Si Wan (ZE:A Group)- started out as a boyband member singer and landed early roles in Moon Embraces the Sun drama, Man from Equator and recently Triangle drama.
I personally find his role in Moon/Sun was refreshing as he has the pretty look for the scholar Heo Yeom. His cold and cynical role Yoon Yang Ha in Triangle was sad but worth watching for he is paired with great veteran actors in the drama. But his breakthrough was leading role as Jang Geu Rae in tVN's drama- "Misaeng". Love this drama! It's based from adaption of a manga in office work. I find this so realistic as we faced such troubles and dilemma in real working life.

** Kim Myung Soo ("L" in Infinite Group)- a vocalist in Infinite Group. He started out small roles in Shut Up Flower Boy Band, Master's Sun and Sly & Single drama. His 2nd lead role came in My Loveable Girl as Si Woo playing oppposite Rain & Krystal. His character is pitiful yet adorable when he changed into a more matured singer. L has definitely improved a lot in his acting skills compared to when he was in Master's Sun drama.

** Park Hyung Sik (ZE:A Group)- he's the 2nd boy band member from ZE:A to have succeeded in acting abilities. He has played quite a couple of roles in various dramas such as Dummy Mummy, Sirius, Nine Time of Travels, The Heirs and most recently as the adorable Cha Dal Bong in What's with the Family? Hyung Sik has been in musicals and variety programs so he's rather comfortable in front of screens.
I'd love to see him more in variety programs and dramas. He has managed to earn respect from his seniors in Real Men variety program as 'baby soldier'

** Ok Taecyeon (2PM group)- oh boy! This fella can really act in rebellious roles with a fine Busan ascent (satoori) in dramas. Well in real life Taecyeon is born in Busan but moved to US to study for a period of time before coming back to South Korea. He plays the youngest brother, Kang Dong Hui in Wonderful Days drama who has a pair of twins, fiery impatient temper and yet he fell in love with his kids's classroom teacher, Mari.
His other dramas include Cinderella Sister with Moon Geun Yeung and Who Are You? Reckon he's earned an actor profile in JYP Entertainment. Good on him!

And I should mention cutie Seo Kang Jun from suPrise group is debuting as singers but he started out as an actor from Suspicious Housekeeper to Sly Single Again and What's with the Family?
I personally like his role Eun Ho in the recent drama What's with the Family? For such a young age actor, he has done so well for himself. His acting skills were great and matured for a 22 year old guy. He is also starring in SBS's Room mate variety program for Season 1 and 2.

Idols that have failed and still lacking :(

** Krystal Jung (fX girl group)- she is pretty in her own way and started out as fX girl group from Sm Entertainment. However her acting skills are still lacking despite she fared averagely as Bo Na in The Heirs drama. Her recent role in My Loveable Girl was a flop as she failed to bring out that pitiful character and it was her 2 male co-stars were keeping the roles afloat. Krystal is just one face that needs to play the rebellious roles, not the timid and naive character.

** IU (solo singer)- in my personal opinion, she is natural in her looks but still has a loooong way as an actress. Stiff in conversations and her expressions aren't realistic enough to pull out a character. Even though she played some great roles in dramas such as Dream High and You're the Best Lee Soon Shin, to be honest the other veteran actors were the ones that helped the ratings. IU has yet to improve a lot but best to stick to her singing career.

** Yun Ho and Chang Min (TVXQ group)- i personally love DBSK as a singing group but not as actors. Hell no!  Yunho was better in terms of acting skills as he fared quite well in A Nightwatchman's Journal drama with Jung Il Woo. Chang Min is just a No-No. His expressions are average but he can never bring out the character. Either the storyline was too crap, his role is too boring and his co-stars are all mismatched. The role he potrayed as a bomb expert in Athena Goddess of War was rubbish! Even my dad was gobsmacked seeing him playing this role when he couldn't do anything. In fact Choi Si Won from SJ surpassed him in that same drama!

** Kim Hyun Joong (former SS501 group)- pretty boy look from Boys Over Flowers drama but his acting is just average. He left SS501 to pursue on solo career but then he didn't pick up much. His fighting roles were weak and didn't make it to the top ratings. Then with his recent scandal beating his girlfriend- that was the end of his career!

** Jang Geun Suk (singer/actor) - I have to admit even he has acted so many dramas but I hardly could watch through his roles. His most entertaining role 'Hwang Tae Kyung' he ever played was in You're Beautiful with Park Shin Hye & Jung Yong Hwa. Apart from that, his roles were flat and purely dull. He became famous from Hwang Jini drama alongside with Ha Ji Won, branched out to You're Beautiful, Love Rain, Mary Stayed Out All Night, Beethoven Virus, Beautiful Man...I don't need to say further- he does look 'sissy' to me. Bleh!

** Go Sung Hee (actress/model)- I'd say she is one of the worst rookie actress I've ever come across in my K-dramas time span. The torture of seeing her as a lead actress in A Nightwatchman's Journal was super bad enough and now she has been casted in Kim Jaejoong's new drama Spy. No! No! No! Lifeless and lousy acting and not even pretty at all.

Not forgetting this but Shin Se Kyung is lifeless in all her acting roles and bears the same sad looking face all the time. But Se Kyung is definitely 10X better than Go Sung Hee.
